What is Building Information Modeling (BIM)?

Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers the construction sector concrete advantages and practical solutions. Keep reading for the details!

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become an increasingly important tool for architects, allowing designers to integrate customers, collaborators and other stakeholders within the workflow of designing and creating built environments. Above all, it allows these groups to be involved from the earliest stages, saving time and money by ensuring that the finished product will please everyone.

What is BIM Building Information Modeling?

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a new design technique which uses a combination of new software and design processes to design buildings from data-rich, three-dimensional models.

It is a much more effective method of collaboration for building design development that leads to greater efficiencies and better designs.

How does BIM Building Information Modeling work with Revit?

The main advantage of designing with Revit software is processing all the drawings of a project using a three-dimensional and data rich model.

This process is vastly different from traditional CAD (Computer Aided Design) systems. In fact, CAD requires drawing each project individually, just as if you were working on a drawing board.

In BIM, on the other hand, you can create a 3D model of a building and Revit will generate all the drawings directly from the original model.

BIM

100% consistency with the original design and project

The beauty of Building Information Modeling is that the outputs will all be consistent with the original model because they are generated from the same model. If the original 3D view shows a door, the floor plan will too.

It seems like a simple and obvious concept but, until recently, designers were forced to manually check and update every single drawing for each modification.

Now, thanks to Revit technology, the possibility exists to generate all outputs (starting directly from the BIM model), to create more outputs and be sure that they are faithful to the original model.

What are the key benefits of Building Information Modeling?

BIM makes it much easier to coordinate a project among all the people involved in it.

In fact, most projects involve many organizations and many different professionals and they all have to work in order to complete the construction. BIM makes it much easier to work together, because everyone works on the same set of BIM models.
